More Knowledge, Less Panic

The increase of radioactive materials detected recently in Tokyo's air and tap water apparently caused more panic, not only in Tokyo, but also in the far-away Kansai region.

Today I happened to read a post in a Yahoo-Answer-like website and it was a question like this.

"I live in the Kansai region but through an e-commerce site I ordered a dress from a Tokyo shop. When it's delivered, what measures should I take to protect myself from the radioactive materials stuck to the dress?"

I totally understand the worry of the woman who asked this question, especially if she didn't have much basic knowledge about radiation.

But I'm sure that for most people living in Tokyo, her question sounds like a joke. If the amount of the radioactive materials stuck to the dress could harm her, Tokyo would be already a ghost town!" In fact, at least for now, the radioactive materials detected in Tokyo are much safer than passive smoking.

And I'm even more sure that questions like hers will hurt the heart of the people who are risking their lives and working hard in the crippled nuclear plant to give hope to all of us. Everyone in Japan should be more supportive for them, or at least avoid unnecessary panic.

Weapon yourself with more knowledge about radiation and keep updated to the news about the nuclear crisis. It will help you make better decisions accordingly.
